Looking for creative ways to save on your energy bills this summer? Below are some quirky ways to stay cool that won’t hurt your bank account.

Breathing Technique

Implementing a breathing technique is a great way to cool your body down naturally. This Yogi technique was derived from yoga and allows you to cool your body in minutes by curling your tongue, focusing on inhaling through your mouth, and exhaling through your nose.

Smartphone Fan

Google “miniature fan that attaches to the phone.” Lots of sites sell these fans that connect to the bottom of your phone, in the charging port. This is an inexpensive way to stay cool this summer.

Spicy Meals

Eating spicy food increases your body’s temperature and while this may sound counterproductive, allowing your body to sweat helps regulate the body’s temperature. So, to get your body sweating, you can add hot peppers, jalapeños, chili powder, or other spices to your food to regulate your body temperature.

Spritz Yourself

Brew some mint tea and let it cool in the refrigerator overnight. Fill a clean stray bottle with the tea and spritz yourself as needed to stay cool. The properties in the mint tea have a calming effect, while the chill of the tea allows you to keep cool.

Ice bath for Your Feet

Since the bottom of your feet are especially sensitive to temperature, an ice bath for your feet is a great way to cool down. The shock of the cold water and ice is an easy way to reset your body’s temperature.

Sleep with a Cold Bottle

This method sounds silly, but no one likes to sweat in their sleep. You can easily fill your water bottle with cold water and some ice cubes or freeze a plastic water bottle and wrap it in a pillowcase to have beside you while you sleep.

Any or all of these methods are unique ways to stay cool during the summer heat. Are these techniques not quite working for you?
